UPDATE ON TRASH
5/27/2026
As part of the transition to Republic Services waste collection, please be advised of the following:
Letters will go out from Republic and the Village to all residents in the week of June 1, providing information on the following:
1. Totes from Republic will be delivered to your residence around June 30. FIRST PICK UP BY REPUBLIC IS FRIDAY, JULY 3, and then every Friday thereafter (except holiday schedule) . Totes need to be on the curb by 4:30 AM on Fridays. Do not use anyone else’s tote. If you currently use GFL, they have indicated they will pick up your empty tote on the last pickup that they do for you in June. If they do not pick up their tote by June 30, please call them.
2. You will get one free 95-gal. tote from Republic. An extra tote will cost $5.00. per month in the first year. The Village Clerk will need to be notified if you want an additional tote. (2 tote maximum)
3. Your monthly bill will be $21.00 in the first year (one tote) for weekly pick-up. This charge will appear on your JULY WATER BILL.
4. You can OPT OUT of garbage service but you MAY NOT USE ANY OTHER HAULER. So if you need garbage service, you must use Republic (through the Village) beginning July 1.These “OPT OUT” forms will be sent with the Village’s letter and must be signed by the OWNER and returned to the Village Hall by June 20. If you need waste service, unless you are a commercial business or live in an apartment or multi-family unit that has dumpster service, you must use Republic. There is a non-refundable charge of $250.00 payable to the Village if you “ opt back in”. (You can only opt back in once.)
5. If you are currently a GFL customer, GFL has indicated that you can “short pay” your quarterly bill and deduct all services for July , August (and September if applicable)) from your GFL bill. IF YOU ALREADY PAID GFL for months of July and after, you will receive a refund. PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR CURRENT WASTE HAULER THAT YOU NO LONGER NEED SERVICES BEGINNING IN JULY.
The letters being sent around June 3 from Republic and the Village should answer most other questions. Please wait until after revieing your letters to call the Village Hall with any unanswered questions.
Thank you for your cooperation during this transition.
